What this page cannot tell you

The percentage is your choice; customs differ by country, by service and by whether service is already included on the bill.

Method: tip = amount × percentage; total = bill + tip; split = total ÷ people, optionally rounded up to whole dollars (the tip absorbs the rounding). Calculated in your browser.

How to calculate a tip

  1. Enter the bill. The total on the receipt.
  2. Choose the tip percentage. Type it or tap 10–25%.
  3. Split it. Enter how many people are paying.
  4. Optional. Tip on the pre-tax subtotal, or round each share up to whole dollars.

How the tip is calculated

Tip = amount × percentage. Total = bill + tip. Each share = total ÷ people. With rounding on, each share is rounded up to the next whole dollar and the tip absorbs the difference, so the effective tip percentage rises slightly; the page shows it.

Everything runs in your browser.

Limits: the percentage is yours to choose; customs differ by country and service, and some bills already include a service charge.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work in other currencies?
